Kidney Stone Care RIRS

ADVANCED LASER TECHNOLOGY & CLINICAL EXCELLENCE

What are kidney stones?

Kidney stones are calcium crystals which accumulate in urine and the cause obstruction and infection and damage to the kidneys and the ureters.

When do they need treatment?

Any stone larger than 5mm should be treated since they can caise damage to the kidney and the ureter

Which stones can be medically managed?

Stones smaller than 5mm which have come down to the lower ureter can be selected for medical care. However these cases need careful follow up and if the stone does not pass in 2 weeks it is safest to opt for laser sugery. Beer intake and very high intake of water can be counterproductive to stone passage.

When is surgery needed?

Surgery is needed when the stones are too large to pass or infection and obstruction have started which can cause danger to the kidneys.

What is laser stone surgery?

Lasers are highly focussed light energy with which we can vaporise stones. Since the surgeon can focuss the beams on to the stone, damage to the kidney and ureter is minimum. Therefore these are the best option for stone care.

What is RIRS?

When the stone is located within the kidneys then we can treat them today with no cut surgery. This surgery is called laser stone surgery by RIRS. The surgeon accesses the kidney from the urinary passage with no cut, pain or bleed. This is the most modern care for stone disease today.

When is PCNL needed?

When stones are super large then we need to make a small puncture in the back of the patient to acess the stone inside the kidney. This is minimally invasive and painless surgery.
