The organ transplant act of India has been instituted to protect the interests of kidney donors. To prevent kidney donors from being exploited. So every kidney donor is counselled regarding the procedure
1. NKPC kidney clinic has an ethics committee to screen the kidney donors.
2. They are informed that they are donating a kidney, and therefore shall be left with only one kidney.
3. They are questioned regarding the reason why they are donating the kidney, and the relationahip they have with the recepient.
4. They are informed that kidney donation means the surgeon shall harvest the kidney by a surgery, which is a major surgery.
5. After surgery the donor should remain under follow up all his or her life to check the function of the remaining kidney.
6. After clearance from the transplant surgeon and transplant physician the case is referred to the state swastya department.
7. At the health department, west bengal swastya bhaban, the recepient and donor are again interviewed regarding, their relationship, and reason for donation of kidney,
8. All these steps are designed to prevent exploitation of the kidney donor
